Understanding the Project.

With multiple presentations across the globe every week, the design team at Wipro Digital felt that they lacked a Brand Defining quality in the presentations and wanted to work on layout and illustration repository for the same.

The project requirement was to increase the number of illustrations in the repository, while also bringing in elements of diversity and inclusivity.

The repository was to be built by following three pre-developed illustration styles: Outline, Contemporary and Isometric.
Some pre-made illustrations in brand guide:

Isometric
Initial Explorations: All styles.
Upon joining the company as an intern, I took the initiative of exploring all the design styles, to understand their dimensions and experiment, before deciding which one to work on from that point onwards. Although there were other members working on the project, all the illustrations I have included hence forth to the end of the project are the ones that I worked on.

Initial Explorations: Contemporary.
After experimentation, I decided on the contemporary line illustration style. I practiced the style for some time in order to achieve similar curves, proportions and element placement.

Key Observations:

-
Lines and Wipro disks were used as means to portray flow, speed, movement and other such dynamics.
-
Curved strokes and offset colour fill.
-
Contextualisation of illustrations with the help of background elements.

Design-Led Presentation.
After creating contemporary illustrations based on characters and given contexts, the project focus shifted to the development of the Design-Led Presentation.

The presentation would be utilized in order to pitch an RFP to a potential client of Wipro.

For the creation of the illustrations to be used in the presentation, slide titles and body text was provided as a base.

These illustrations would be added to the repository, also to be used in later projects.

Rough Sketches.
After drawing out multiple rough ideations with pencil, I re-drew selected sketch(es) and drew them in procreate roughly, to present the ideation to the team and get approval.

Final Vectors.

Some of the vectors that were finalised to be put into the repository and be used in the presentation.

Learnings.
-
Collaborating with a bigger team created many learning opportunities. Brainstorming sessions produced many interesting flows of thoughts. It gave me exposure to what ideating as a group can look like.

-
Learning to imitate a pre-developed design style was challenging at first. With an understanding of how movement and communication were presented through the curves and shapes, it became easier to express new ideas through the given style.

-
It broadened my perspective to also include business needs, along with the users. Who is going to be viewing the presentation? What are we trying to communicate to them? Why would it interest them? What emotions would rush to them upon seeing this imagery?

-
The internship experience helped streamline my design process, and design research process better. I learned how putting more structure into the design thought and researching benefits the final outcome.
